At Midlife Coffee, we are committed to sourcing our beans from small farmers around the globe and roasting these locally in Minnesota.
In 2018, I visited the coffee farming cooperative, De La Gente (From the People) in Antigua, Guatemala. While visiting the coffee plantation and meeting the proud farmers in person, I not only learned how coffee is grown and harvested, but I heard so many personal stories of a community forming their own local cooperative and developing a business outside of large for-profit coffee plantations.
I vowed that if I was ever fortunate enough to open a coffee shop, I would sell coffee from small growers and cooperatives. Today, this vision has become reality as I proudly sell the globally grown and locally roasted beans.
The name Midlife Coffee was born after much debate and my husband simply naming the situation at hand.
As mom to four amazing children who are becoming more independent and heading off to new adventures, I had some extra time on my hands. It was my youngest son who remarked that I should use this time to start my coffee business. In crisis or not, after 20 years of talking about it, I decided to take a risk and set this idea in motion.
I love coffee and relaxing with friends and family. Coffee has been a big part of my life at home as well as my international adventures. This business venture will forge stronger relationships for my family and my community. I’m thrilled about connecting to small coffee farmers globally and supporting local roasters. Midlife Coffee brings together the best of both worlds! Together, we will make a difference.
I am a mom, educator, wife, daughter, sister and small business owner of “Midlife Coffee.” During the school year, I teach English to multilingual learners in the public schools. I love learning languages, understanding diverse cultures and different ways of being in the world. I like to listen to stories and learn from those around me- I couldn’t think of a better way to do this than by sipping coffee together.
